RECIPE: Turnip Salad with Wasabi Mayo and Furikake

Wasabi adds the perfect punch of heat to the creamy dressing in this refreshing turnip salad. Savory salmon and ume furikake add a touch of smokey flavor while sesame seeds lend crunch and nuttiness.

Servings: 2-3

Ingredients:

  • 160-170g turnips (~3 small turnips ) (Can also be substituted with daikon, carrot, or celeriac)

  • 40g turnip leaves (~1 small turnip’s worth)

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • Sesame seeds (to taste)

  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise

  • 1-2 tsp wasabi paste*

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

  • 1 Tbsp Salmon & Ume (Japanese Plum) Furikake (Seasoning)

Instructions:

  1. Peel and cut the turnips into thin rounds then cut the rounds into quarters. Finely chop the turnip leaves. Place both in a bowl and toss with ¼ tsp of salt. Let sit for 10 mins then squeeze out the excess water.

  2. To make the sauce, combine mayonnaise, wasabi, and olive oil and mix well. Add the turnip slices and leaves as well as sesame seeds and Salmon & Furikake. Toss to combine.
