This versatile spice blend adds heat and tang to any dish! Locally grown chili peppers give the blend its ruby red color and a mellow kick of heat. Dried tangerine peel adds a refreshing tang that cuts through fat while dried seaweed lends the perfect amount of salt and umami.
Japan is home to about 50 different species of chili peppers, however, only 3% used are domestic. Yohgado continues to harvest local chili peppers, including kagawa hontaka which was the first variety to come to Japan 400 years ago. Its heat doesn’t tingle, but is mellow and spreads slowly, providing a unique taste and fragrance that can’t be found outside of Japan.
