RECIPE: Tororo (Grated Yam) & Black Sesame Jam Daikon (Japanese Radish) Salad
This simple salad features crisp, refreshing strips of daikon radish in a sweet and sour dressing. Black sesame jam adds just the right amount of nutty sweetness to balance the sour and spicy notes of the Tororo Salad Dressing while black sesame seeds add an extra bit of crunch.
Servings: 2-3
Ingredients:
-
⅕ large daikon (Japanese radish) (can be substituted with white turnip or jicama)
-
A pinch of salt
-
1 tsp kokuto (Okinawa black sugar) and sesame jam* (can substitute with 1 tsp peanut butter and a pinch of sugar)
-
3 tsp Tororo Salad Dressing
-
Black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions:
-
Wash and peel the daikon and cut into long, thin matchsticks. Set in a colander, sprinkle with salt, toss to coat and set aside.
-
In a medium bowl combine the Tororo Salad Dressing with the kokuto black sesame jam and mix well. (If increasing the amount, use a 3:1 ratio of Tororo Salad Dressing to black sesame jam.)
-
After about 15 mins squeeze the daikon to remove excess water. Add to the bowl with the prepared dressing and toss to coat. Garnish with black sesame seeds and enjoy!
