RECIPE: Karaage (Fried Chicken) with Yakiniku Sauce
Karaage is the Japanese version of fried chicken. It’s light and juicy, and has become one of Japan’s most famous comfort foods. Here it’s paired with a sweet and spicy yakiniku sauce which helps to cut the oil.
Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- 250g chicken thigh (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 3 Tbsp Vegan Yakiniku Sauce
- 1 tsp doubanjiang (spicy bean sauce) (optional)
- 3 Tbsp potato starch
- Deep-frying oil
Instructions:
- Combine the chicken thighs, Vegan Yakiniku Sauce and doubanjiang (if using) in a zippered storage bag. Rub together to coat the chicken and place in the fridge for 20 mins.
- When the flavors are well blended, sprinkle with potato starch.
- Pour oil into a pan to a height of 5cm from the bottom. Heat to 180℃, add the marinated chicken and deep-fry for about 5 mins until the chicken is cooked through.
