This beautiful black soybean jam combines the rich, nutty flavors of soybeans with the slight sweetness of granulated sugar. More like a sweet nut butter than a jam, this spread is perfect on toast or pastries. The black soybeans are grown in the Sakushu area of Okayama Prefecture and add a unique deep gray color speckled with darker flecks of soybean skin.

A jam that’s different

I couldn’t quite imagine what this would be like and the first time I had it on my toast in the morning I thought it‘s nice but nothing too outrageous. Over the following days it quietly grew on me and I‘m sad it’s gone now. It has a more subtle sweetness compared to fruit jam and in a way it also reminded me of nut creams, just more mellow. It definitely was unusual but I loved it!
