RECIPE: Yamitsuki (Addictive) Cabbage

Simple yet incredibly satisfying, this addictive cabbage is a favorite side dish at Japanese pubs and yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurants. Light and refreshing, it features crisp pieces of green cabbage coated in a flavorful blend of sesame oil, garlic, and sesame seeds.
Servings: 2-4
Ingredients:
-
350-400g (~ ½ large head) green cabbage
-
1 tsp grated garlic
-
1 Tbsp white or golden sesame seeds
-
(optional) ½ tsp dried green seaweed
-
(optional) dashi powder (to taste)*
Instructions:
-
Remove the core from the cabbage and slice or tear the leaves into bite-sized pieces.
-
In a large bowl, combine the prepared cabbage with the remaining ingredients. Toss to coat and let sit for at least an hour to fully take on the flavor before serving.
-
Sprinkle with additional sesame seeds when serving if desired. Enjoy as a refreshing snack or as a side dish alongside rice, grilled meat, or gyoza (dumplings).
