RECIPE: Japanese-Style Soy Sauce Carbonara
This innovative twist on classic Italian carbonara will transport you to the tropical islands of Okinawa. The Mozuku Soy Sauce adds umami-rich flavors that enhance the salty taste of crispy bacon and fragrant olive oil while adding a silky smooth texture to the sauce. A dash of Shikuwasa & Red Pepper Island Hot Sauce also adds a bit of island flavor and heat!

Ingredients:
- 200g spaghetti (dry)
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp olive oil (you can use the olive oil from the Smoked Island Tofu in Herb & Garlic Olive Oil*)
- 6 slices bacon (cut into 1cm pieces)
- ½ onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce*
- Pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
- Shikuwasa & Red Pepper Island Hot Sauce* (to taste)
Instructions:
- Boil the spaghetti in salted water as per the instructions on the package.
- Separately, heat the olive oil in a frying pan, and sauté the bacon, onion and spaghetti in this order. Add the Mozuku Soy Sauce and a pinch of salt. Sauté briefly.
- Turn off the heat, crack in the eggs and stir until the eggs are gently cooked.
- Serve topped with a dash of Shikuwasa & Red Pepper Island Hot Sauce.
