Konpeito (from the Portuguese word "confeito" meaning "candy") are a small Japanese candy carefully handcrafted and shaped like confetti. Made with domestically grown sakura blossoms, these konpeito have an elegant floral flavor and resemble the iconic pale pink flowers. Just like blooming sakura, making konpeito takes time and patience. Tiny grains of sugar are slowly rotated in a large drum while sugar syrup is gradually added, creating the candy's characteristic bumps.
