This Ishigaki Ra-yu (Gourmet Chili Oil) is a mix of sweetness and spice and is made from a variety of local island spices and seasonings from Okinawa, Japan's southernmost tropical islands.
Made by hand, with the help of our producer's island grandmother, it includes speciality ingredients including "island pepper" which grows naturally on the stone fence around the couple's backyard, local sea salt from Ishigaki island, kokuto (Okinawa black sugar), garlic, sesame seeds, black beans and a dash of "chimuguru" - the heart and soul of the Okinawan spirit.
Drizzle it on any of your favorite dishes as you would a hot sauce. Extremely versatile, it can be used on top of tofu, stir fries, or a bowl of noodles or rice.
Suggested use: Adds a sweet and spicy flavor to any of your favorite dishes and is a versatile hot sauce substitute that can be used on top of tofu, stir fries, or vegetables, or to add extra spice to noodles. Mix well before using to blend all the ingredients and to experience the true combined flavors of the Island!
