鹿儿岛以盛产红薯而闻名。日语中“红薯”一词(satsumaimo)就源自鹿儿岛的古称“萨摩”(Satsuma)。这里的红薯糖采用平安时代(794年至1185年)流传下来的传统工艺制作而成。红薯在明火上用大锅烹煮,并加入麦芽以凸显其天然的甜味。与咸水太妃糖类似,这种独特的糖果入口坚硬,但咀嚼后会变得顺滑粘稠。
