RECIPE: Wafu BBQ Pizza

Tired of plain old cheese and pepperoni pizza? Try something new this summer! This Wafu BBQ Pizza features thin slices of Japanese BBQ-style beef, gooey mozzarella cheese, and a creamy sauce. 

Servings: 2


Ingredients:

  • Prepared pizza crust 

  • 160g (~ 6 oz) thinly sliced beef

  • ½ onion

  • Small handful of komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) (substitute with spinach or arugula)

  • 80g (~ 1 cup) mozzarella cheese (shredded)

  • 4 Tbsp Vegan Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) Sauce

  • 4 Tbsp mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

 

Instructions:

  1. Peel the onion and cut into bite-sized wedges. Wash the komatsuna (or spinach/arugula), pat dry, and cut into 3-4cm pieces.

  2. In a bowl, mix the thinly sliced beef, onion wedges, Vegan Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) Sauce, mayonnaise, and sugar. 

  3. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the prepared crust on the baking sheet. 

  4. Top with the prepared meat and sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and chopped komatsuna (or spinach/arugula). 

  5. Bake for about 15 mins in the oven or toaster oven at 250℃ / 475℉ until browned and bubbling. Garnish with red pepper flakes if desired.
