Every good rice cracker starts with high-quality glutinous rice. Darumadou Seika sources theirs from local rice paddies where crops thrive in Gifu’s fresh air. The rice is steamed with mineral-rich water pumped from 100 meters underground to create the company’s signature okaki (crispy rice cracker) dough. The okaki are dried and baked to the perfect crispy and light texture they are topped with a generous amount of thinly sliced almonds enveloped in a luxurious, buttery caramel creating a sweet snack reminiscent of caramel popcorn.
Founded in 1923, Darumadou Seika has been manufacturing deliciously crisp okaki and arare rice crackers for over a century. A popular souvenir in Gifu, the company makes over 100 varieties of rice crackers using local rice and mineral-rich groundwater. The company has several locations, including one in the Tanigumi Arare Village complex in Ibigawa Town, which sells an array of sweets and snacks to locals and tourists alike.
